An awareness prgramme was conducted for 39 children who visited CTEC on an educational tour on 12.07.2008 (Saturday). This was conducted on the invitation of Save the Children Matara under the Disaster Reduction Program and was coordinated by the District Disaster Management coordinator, Galle, Cpt. Senarathna. The kids visited places related to Disaster Risk Reduction in Galle including the Multihazard Warning Tower in Hikkaduwa and the Community Tsunami Early-warning Centre.
The kids were shown around CTEC premises including the Monitoring Room. Presentations were made on the following subjects by CTEC officers:
Tsunami Preparedness
Fire Preparedness
Tornado Preparedness
Lightening Prpeapredness
A practical sessions were held on the use of fire extinguishers where kids had hands on experience on the use of fire safety equipment.
We are planning to conduct similar training programmes for kids and other interested groups at CTEC in future as well.
